This group of islands in Antarctica consists of five major islands and other small ones. Elephant is the largest and measures 23 miles long and 13 miles wide. It got its name from the large number of Elephant Seals which once colonized here. The scenery here is spectacular with sheer cliffs rising up to 3,400 ft high and glaciers topped with snow.
