Darwin is a former frontier town named after the evolutionist Charles Darwin. Darwin grew as a town back in 1871, with the discovery of gold at Pine Creek and today you can still see a number of the historical buildings from that era. Darwin is also at the centre of the Aboriginal community, one of the world’s oldest remaining cultures. From Darwin you can visit the Kakadu National Park a World Heritage Site, famous for its Aboriginal rock art.
Darwin Panorama and Botanical Gardens: We depart the pier and head through Darwin taking in Christchurch Cathedral and the Government House, before we make a brief stop at the Botanical Gardens. We then head off towards Fannie Bay, passing the Museum of Art and Natural Sciences. Once at Fannie Bay we can view a fine art collection based at Cullen Bay Marina.Jumping Crocodiles Cruise: We board our coach for a one hour journey to the Adelaide River which is home to the saltwater crocodiles. For the next one and a half hours we cruise along the river, getting the best close up views of crocodiles and a chance to take photographs. We make a stop at Windows on the Wetlands for an informative talk on the local flora and fauna. This is a great tour for nature lovers who want to get to the heart of the region.
