Yalta is located on the north coast of the Black Sea and is surrounded by wooded mountains and enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, which is perfect for the many orchards and vineyards. Places of interest are the Foros Church, Alexander Neusky cathedral, the Park Museum and Yalta Zoo.
Ukrainian Folk and Dance Ensemble: We are invited by the Taura Group which comprises of over fifty dancers, to experience the folklore and culture of the Ukraine through the medium of song and dance. Throughout the evening we are treated to various ballads, traditional instruments and costume. During the interval we are served refreshments and champagne. Chekhov’s Yalta: First we visit Alexander Nevsky Cathedral built in 1898 which is now home to some marvellous frescos. We also have our own tour guide who will explain the Russian Orthodox religion. We then walk to Morskaya Street and the Lenin Embankment to the Oreanda Hotel. Next we visit the Chekov Museum where Anton Chekov spent his final years and wrote ‘The Seagull’ and the ‘Cherry Orchard’. Our guide will show us where Chekov lived, his documents, photographs and some of the writer’s personal belongings. Afterwards we head to the Exhibition Hall for a concert of romantic 18th and 19th century music by Russian composers.
