Typical Excursion
Manta Highlights and Monte Cristi: Firstly we visit the Archaeological Museum with its collection of pre-Colombian artefacts. From here we journey on to the ancient town of Monte Cristi, founded in 1628 and the epicentre for the manufacture of the famous Panama hat. Before we head back to the ship, we stop at La Pila, an artisan town and then on to the Tagua Factory which makes jewellery, sculptures and buttons made from the ivory coloured nut found in this area. Aqua Blanca Archaeological Site: Manabi is home to some of the oldest human settlements found in Ecuador. Located near to the Machalilla National Park, this is a fascinating excursion and shows us how life was lived thousands of years ago.
