Typical Excursion

Almeria Countryside and Local Produce:  We depart the pier and head to Tabernas through some stunning scenery where the film “Lawrence of Arabia” was filmed.  We stop at the village of Laujar de Andarax and visit the Cortijo de Cura wine cellar, where there is ample time to sample the wines and tour the village. Mojacar:  We head out from the pier towards Mojacar and pass through the Tabermas Desert where many well-known westerns have been filmed, until we arrive at the village of Tabernas Mojacar.  This is a Moorish village at the foot of the Sierra de Cabrera.  We follow an ancient route which brings us to the Puerta de la Ciudad (city door).  From here we proceed to the top of the village for amazing views across the Mediterranean Sea and coastline.  In the l960s Mojacar, like many other Spanish town became deserted as workers headed to Barcelona with the promise of work in the booming factories.  The mayor of Mojacar offered free land to those willing to build and stay in Mojacar.  Since then it has become a thriving art colony, which makes Mojacar well worth visiting to view its original paintings.
