The walled and fortified charming town of Alghero, once home to the Catalans and the Spanish offers a wealth of architecture and history. Today it has modern day boutiques, fine restaurants and the famous ice cream parlours. Local produce includes carved wood, pottery and antique basketwork.
Castelsardo: We travel along the north coast towards Castelsardo, where we make a stop at the famous Elephant Rock which is believed to be a ceremonial burial site dating back to the 12th century. Castelsardo founded in the 12th century offers unrivalled views of the Gulf of Asinara and the Gallira mountains, with impressive structures such as the 16th century Gothic style cathedral set on a cliff edge, and its wealth of craft shops producing hand made baskets. Castelsardo makes for a fascinating days excursion.Nuraghe Palmavera: We travel from the port towards Cappo Caccia and take time to enjoy the splendid views of the magnificent coastline. We then visit Nuraghe Palmavera and take time to explore this amazing prehistoric site, before returning to Alghero to visit the Church of San Francesco and the Aragon style palace, before ending the day with shopping and coffee in one of Alghero’s superb cafes.
