Grado was thrust into the limelight in the 1800s because of the therapeutic water and its sand. It then saw a massive influx of artists, nobles and rich tourists who came to Grado on European tours looking for cures for a string of ailments. Since the Second World War, Grado has increased in size and is now a popular holiday resort.
