Typical Excursion

Korcula Walking Tour: We step off the ship and almost immediately walk through the city gates into Korcula. The town was built with its streets designed in the shape of a fishbone. This was said to take advantage of the different winds that passed through Korcula and so acted as a natural air-conditioning system. Our walk will take us to St. Mark’s cathedral where we can appreciate the work of Korcula’s stone masons. From here we head to the Bishop’s Palace where we can see original drawings by Leonardo de Vinci. Michelangelo, Raphael and others. We will also visit the City Museum which has a fascinating display of ancient Greek and Roman artefacts. Finally we visit the Church of All Saints to view its Byzantine icons. Before we head back to the ship, we also visit the birthplace of Korcula’s most historically famous inhabitant Marco Polo, the famous merchant who was born in 1254.
