Monte Carlo is an administrative area of the principality of Monaco– though contrary to what is commonly thought, Monte Carlo is not the capital of Monaco, but its government district. The area is mostly renowned for its large casino and its staging of the world’s most prominent event in motor racing - the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. As you might expect for somewhere so affluent, as a whole, there is an array of high-range restaurants and recreation opportunities – from yachting to sun-drenched games of tennis – in an area that is essentially a playground for those looking to enjoy the finer things in life.

The principality of Monte Carlo (and Monaco) is perfectly balanced when it comes to historical and modern attractions. There are various museums and galleries to visit – those like the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium, which includes stuffed exhibits as well as a live display of the flora and fauna of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem, and the Marlborough fine arts gallery, with some truly magnificent works in its roster (think Picasso, Matisse…). There are also palaces to visit, shopping malls nearby, as well as Monte Carlo’s famous Grand Casino, which has attracted roaring crowds over the decades, and while the casino crowds have dwindled since the Golden Age of the gambling hall, there’s still something of an atmosphere here.
