Situated south west of Athens on the Peloponnese peninsula, Nafplion is often used as a base from which to visit the area’s archaeological sites. Cruise ships are greeted by three fortresses which dominate the port, from where you can take a tender ashore to start exploring the two World Heritage Sites of Epidaurus and Mycenae.
Ancient Corinth and Mycenae: We travel to Corinth for a photo stop at the 4 mile long Corinth Canal which connects the Ionian and Aegean Seas. We then had to Corinth which is a mixture of Greek and Roman ruins dating back to the 6th century BC. After exploring these ancient ruins we head to Mycenae for lunch at a local restaurant. We then pass back into Mycenae through the famous Lion Gate. This ancient city has been inhabited since 3000 BC and has many interesting sites including the Royal Cemetery which is believed to be the burial place of Agamemnon as his golden mast was found here.
