Ravenna is known for its Byzantine tombs and churches, the mosaics of the Tomb of Galla Placida and the famous Basilica of St. Apollinaris with its many varied colours.
Bologna Highlights: We take a one and a half hour drive to Bologna where we begin our tour of the main monuments. We depart from the Piazza Maggiore, the Town Hall and St Petronio’s Church. We then visit Neptune’s Square with its famous 16th century fountain plus King Enzo’s Palace. We then continue to the university founded in 1088, plus the Anatomic Theatre and the medieval building of St Stephen the Saint of Jerusalem.Classic Ravenna: On this tour we visit a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We take in St Apollinare and the 5th century Galla Placide Mausoleum. From the coach we can also see the 15th century Venetian Fortress. This tour also includes a two hour walking tour with wine tasting and a traditional lunch. We also have ample time to shop and visit a local workshop.
