Savona, Latin Savo is a city and seaport in the northwestern Italian region Liguria, lying on the Riviera di Ponente, southwest of Genoa. The city is also known as the City of Popes (Città dei Papi), because Francesco Della Rovere, who was born there, became Pope Sixtus IV in 1471 and then his nephew Guiliano had the honour to become Pope Julius II in 1503. Both of them have are connected to the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican as Sixtus IV had it built and Julius II was the one to commision Michelangelo to decorate the ceiling.
