Valletta is famous for its many historical sites including Cathedrals, Castles and fortresses built by the Knight of St John, the Romans, Phoenicians and the Arabs. Not far from Valletta is Medina home to Europe’s third-largest dome.
Highlights of Malta: We take a short walk to the Grand Master’s palace which is now home to Malta’s Parliament. The interior of the palace is stunning with Gobelin tapestries dating back to the 18th century. We then continue through the main street to St John’s Cathedral, the Knights own church. St John’s contains some of Malta’s finest art treasures including the ‘Beheading of St John’ by Caravaggio. We then take the coach for a 30 minute drive to Median, once the Roman capital of Malta. A short walk takes us to the Bastions of Medina where we have the most incredible views of Malta’s north-easterly coast. Botanical Gardens of Malta: Malta’s gardens are full of indigenous and imported plants, including the upper Barrakka Gardens with it tree lined paths. Upper Barrakka is also home to many Cenotaphs and plagues commemorating and honouring people involved in Malta’s defence.
