Astoria is surrounded by forests, rivers and mountains and is perfect for exploration. Within a 20 mile radius you can visit a wealth of attractions. These include Fort Storens State Park, Fort Astoria, the Flavel House and the Heritage Centre museums, Astoria Column and the famous Columbia River Maritime Museum which houses the nation’s finest examples of nautical artefacts and model ships.
Historic Astoria and Fort Clatsop: This excursion offers the perfect opportunity to explore America’s oldest settlement west of the Rockies. Walk in the footsteps of some famous visitors dating back to Captain John Gray in 1792 and the famous Clark’s Corps of Discovery in 1808. Visit Astoria Column which commemorates important historical events and offers splendid views over the beaches of Washington and Oregon. Tour Fort Clatsop, a replica fort depicted in Clark’s journals then back to Astoria with its famous Union town Victorian homes, Doughboy Monument and historical churches. Mount St. Helen: From the dock we drive alongside the beautiful Columbia River which gives ample opportunity to enjoy the marvellous scenery and famous landmarks. We then arrive at Mount St Helen’s National Volcanic Monument in Washington State. Once inside the Monument Centre you can get fantastic views of Mount St Helen, which include the crater, lava dome and blast zone. There are up to 1,500 photographs of the eruption in 1980, informative lectures, walks, theatre programmes and ample time to view the native flora fauna and wildlife.
