Sitka’s deep Russian heritage makes this a fascinating place to visit. Set in a harbour surrounded by the spectacular Mt. Edgecumbe, Sitka offers a wealth of interesting sights including the onion-shaped done of St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Historic Park which contains the ruins of an Indian Fort, where the Tlingif Indians once battled with Russians Settlers in 1804.
Historic Russian America Tour: We visit St Michael’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral full of 16th century icons and religious artefacts. We also stop at the Sitka National Park site of the Battle of Alaska. Finally we visit and talk with the Tlingif Indians who are expert wood carvers, before we return to the ship we are entertained by the New Archangel Dancers. Sea Life Discovery Semi Submersible: We board our heated semi-submersible and explore the coastline and marine life of these beautiful waters, which include crab starfish, anemones and an array of aquatic plants.
