Tartous was once the stronghold of the Knights Templar and was originally founded by the Phoenicians. Today Tartous is a major port with an oil line which brings oil along a pipeline 640 km long from Karatchok. But this ancient city is not all about oil; it still has the remains of its medieval town walls and ramparts, making Tartous an important archaeological site to visit.
