Elba is famous for being the island where Napoleon Bonaparte was first exiled before he escaped and the battle of Waterloo commenced. He was finally recaptured and exiled for a second time on the island of St. Helena. Elba is a beautiful island with over 50 beaches, mountains and archaeological ruins. Portoferraio the 16th century walled city is a lovely place to simply stroll around.
