This important city was once a major stopover for all types of ships travelling between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans, and became known as ‘Little San Francisco’. Portillo is famous for nestling between two mountains, the Mount Ojas de Agua and Mount La Parva, whilst the highest mountain in the Americas Mt Aconcagua at 6957 metres stands close by.
