Having just returned from the Balmoral Cruise which was caught up in the storm in the Bay of Biscay and which we did not reach any of the ports in the Itinery we have recieved from Fred Olsen a discount offer on any future Fred Olsen cruise up to end of 2010 which is not in my opinion good enough. However it was an experiance and the crew were excellant during this time and praise must go to the Captain of the ship for keeping us informed about the bad weather. Will I sail with Fred Olsen again?? probably but not during the winter months as you take a chance on the weather. P.H. 29-1-09 -12-05pm.
A pleasant but average to good cruise experience onboard the Boudicca. A lovely sleek looking ship, the layout inside is somewhat dissappointing. The showlounge has terribly heavy seats that are practically impossible, but the sightlines are not too bad. Service was tremendous with friendly and overall helful staff. Decor throughtout the ship is not glitzy but homely and pleasant. Food was superb and I cannot fault our waiter service at all. The cruise was very nice calling in at Cherbourg, Cobh, Dublin, Portree, Kirkwall ( was cancelled at short notice due to high winds and seas) Invergordon before disembarking at Leith. A fairly enjoyable cruise but would rather travel on the Braemar instead.
The Boudicca is quite a small ship in comparison with those ships that are afloat in current times. She has only recently had a refit and this reflects in the quality of the decor and condition of the ship both inside and out. Due to the size of the ship everything seems much more intimate, be it the dining rooms, bars, of show rooms. The waiters and staff are very attentitive, and provide an excellent service. The cabins were average really, however provide all the basics that you will need (especially as they are only really used to sleep in and get changed in). Due to it's size (rather like the famous beer) the Boudicca can reach parts other ships cannot reach!! this means that you can see some of the more lovely and almost unspoilt parts of the world. So, to recap, this ship is superb if you prefer more intimacey, and like to visit ports that you cannot get to everyday.
