i was very glad i chose this ship for my very first cruise.it was absolutley fantastic. it has changed the way i feel about holidays for the future, i am looking for my next cruise where i can share the excitment with my daughter and grandaughter.
Decided to try Grand Princess around the Med. First impressions of the ship were very good, but that was to change. On the Sunday sailing out we went up for breakfast. It was virtually standing room only. By the time we had found a table we were beside the open air pool, an area not covered by waiters and so had to back track to get cutlery. Result - Cold breakfast. This happened on three mornings. Lunch was not quite as bad. Many times waiters in the food court would be asking if any drinks were required. Ask for a coffee and you were lucky to get it. The food court was also a main thoroughfare between the pools and rear stairs, possibly because the centre stairwell as shown on the deck plans did not exist, and not everyone wishes to use an elevator We still enjoyed the holiday although the edge was taken off. Grand Princess has got a lot to learn from Sea Princess which we have sailed on in the past and was superb
This was the first time we had been on a princess ship and have to say was very impressed with the boat. We thought the pools were terrific especially the one with the sliding roof,we had a balcony cabin and i must it was worth paying the extra . I am sorry to say we have two complaints ,1 the trip up to the top of flamm fjiord this was the excursion desk not issueing full instructions assome of the trips on the coach/train were cancelled so we missed the excursion obviously we wont be going back to norway . The second occassion was a trip to the north cape , again through misunderstanding our coach driver did not give any details of any landmarks and we only had ten minutes before boarding the coach . I have to say after complaining to the desk onboard we were eventually refunded fully our money on the flamm trip and patial refund on the north cape . I think on these cruises princess have to sort out exactly what is happening on trips . I will say though that we have booked to go on emerald princess to greek isles in july .
I spent a day on the Grand Princess whilst in dock in Southampton. I managed to see most of the cabin types, and they were all very well equiped. The restaurants and bars were extemely well decorated with the waiters and staff on board being very helpful. Having only been on the ship for quite a short period of time, it is difficult to try and get everything in, and so this is quite a short review. The food was a delight to eat, and I would certainly recommend this ship to anyone that has ever consider a cruise. The shear size of the ship is enough to keep her steady in any weather or seas. And as I said before, although a short day, a lovely time was had by all.
I went on a short day visit on the grand princess in southampton. Altough we only spent a short amount of time on the ship, our guide was very helpful and managed to show us as many of the facilities the ship had to offer. We managed to see an inside cabin which was very spacious and well layed out, we also managed to sneak a peek at a balcony cabin, which again was very spacious and well layed out, we went out onto the balcony which was nice to see as it makes a small difference having that extra bit of space to step out onto and get some fresh air. We went out onto the Lido deck which had a large pool and deck area with plenty of sun loungers and is also home to 'movies under the stars' a large outdoor screen where you can watch all the latest movies. After looking round the ship we all sat down to a lovely 4 course meal, the food was beautifull and was served by very polite and attentive staff. All in all a beautifull ship with excellent facilities, polite, friendly staff and excellent food and definately lives upto her name. I would highly recommend travelling on the Grand Princess!
