This was our first P&O cruise although in the late 60's early 70's I worked on board the original Oriana. Cruising has become a more mass media holiday and regretfully the large liners are very impersonal. The Peninsular resteraunt was mediocre, several tables around us constantly returning food (served cold) The buffet style resteraunt after one try became a no go area for us. A sharp reminder of school dinners! The only one saveing grace was ORana Rhodes. Well worth the supplement and food of a standard that you should expect. We were subjected to contstant noise in A141 as this is located directly beneath the gym and so weights dropping onto unmatted floors made our cabin shake. Unable to change cabin as full ship. After multitude of complaints including the CAptain we were offered

We were 4 school friends celebrating our 50th year. What a way to celebrate we had the most fantastic time. Dancing in the Disco till 3am to 70-80's music just our era. We couldn't recommend this enough and we are looking for another mini cruise so we can do it all again!! Has to be mini as the Husbands cant fend for themselves if we leave them any longer!!

The Oriana is a wonderful ship, and we were fortunate enough to book a balcony cabin just behind the bridge. I mention this because we were asked by The Captain (Hamish) if we would mind our cabin being used to take some promotional shots for next years (09) brochure. If you have a copy of the P&O Worldwide Exotic Brochure Jan-April 09 turn to page 68 and you will see the phote with a couple (models) on our balcony. As a reward we were invited onto the Bridge to see how the ship sailed away from the Port of Madeira - fantastic! We had a great time on the cruise and met some lovely people. Best Tip - if you go to the Canaries its worthwhile booking a hire car (about

We tried this for a weekender cruise to Bruges to see what all the money cost, also to find out if we could cope with an inside cabin - I have a psychological need to have a window. A few days before we sailed, P&O phoned up and gave us a free upgrade to an outside cabin. So, I still don't know what an inside cabin feels like! The restaurant had the best food that I had ever tasted; a fantastic menu with good selection of food for all tastes. The buffet restaurant was a bit chaotic however; It was not big enough for everyone and the breakfasts and afternoon tea were hit and miss - I've had much better on Thomson ships. The juice machines did not work properly and the staff were not interested in dealing with it. We had a disabled cabin with a wet-room for the bath/shower area - a good idea, why can't all bathrooms be like that on board? The beds were marvellous; I gather that Oriana has just been re-furbished with new beds, bedding and carpets. The cabaret was poor, surprising really as the Compere kept going on about how they had all been to drama school and passed numerous auditions to be there. What surprised me most was the number of hen and stag parties on board. The cheapest tickets were

The Oriana has an elegant air about it. You feel really special standing on the deck looking out to see. It has a very romantic atmosphere and everything is done to perfection from the cleanliness of the cabins, public areas, etc to the food, quality of service and entertainment. The Captain is a very friendly approachable man and from his comments in his annoucements you can see that he is very proud of the ship - and quite right too. We have saidled on this lovely vessel twice now and hope to sail on her again. Cruising is the most wonderful experience and it is not just for the old!! as so many people seem to think. If you are thinking of joining a cruis on this ship we would say stop thinking about it and book it - you only live once so enjoy!!!

P & O provide food in the buffet area that is akin to school dinners. They put into container ports as destinations in places like Hong Kong (where there is a perfectly wonderful harbour, with a proper cruise terminal). I strongly suspect this is to sell their tours and to be able to charge for transfers into the city (they tried this in Shanghai, but due to a passenger revolt, subsequently offered the transfers for nothing) This cruise was worth maybe a third of what I paid for it - certainly not what I paid for and received. Stick to the US based cruise lines like RCCL, Princess and Holland America. The shore excursions on P &O are a very expensive joke -overpriced and poorly organised. The food in the main restaurant is good, to be fair as is the service. Everywhere else it is cheap junk, with little choice. The staff in the main are surly and unhelpful and the ship seems to be run more for the crew than the passengers. This was my first - and last - cruise with P & O. Other Carnival Corp. cruise lines offer so much more for your money. I cannot recommend P & O under any circumstances.

Another fantastic cruise on the Oriana with plenty of sea days across the Atlantic and back again, with the added enjoyment of the Caribbean in between. 23 nights of luxury. The service as ever was excellent, the cabin stewards remember you too. There was more than enough to do on the sea days, with some very interesting insights into the ship itself. The facilities - gym, internet cafe, entertainment with the Oriana Theatre Co. etc were excellent, as was the food. All abided by the dress code on the numerous formal evenings. I usually do my own thing on excursions, but did one organised tour to Virgin Gorda, from Tortola which I would recommend to anyone. Looking forward to my next cruise later on in 2007 to see her after her refit at the end of 2006.

Although the date I put was 97, I actually cruised on the Oriana in her maiden season in 1995, and that was my first cruise. I was 8 at the time. What a brilliant ship she was. The food, service, entertainement and cabin were all top notch, first class. The cruise itself was very nice, although I do prefer her running mate, the Aurora more. Oriana though is a splendid ship and is very popular and I can see why!

In May this year I went on the Essential Norway cruise on board the P&O Oriana. I had never been to the Fjords before nor had I cruised with P&O. We didnt have particularly good weather, it rained most days and was quite cold. However the Fjords were still spectacular and the scenery amazing! Having cruised with Princess and Royal Caribbean , P&O was a different style of cruising. They are very British and food and entertainment was very much geared towards us Brits. I had an outside cabin which I felt was above average size and was kept very clean. I recieved first class service throughout and as a whole this cruise was very enjoyable (shame about the weather) and I would recommend the Fjords and P&O to anybody!
