Having previously only sailed across the sea in a ferry, this was my first ever experience of a cruise ship, words cannot describe how blown away I was by the sheer enormity of her! I couldn
Having cruised with Royal Caribbean for the last three years I decided to try something new and opted for a 12 day Med cruise on the Carnival Freedom. This ship turn out to be a disappointment all round. It certainly did not live up to the name "fun ship". Our first disappointment was the location of the cabin allocated and we had no option to change. Decor wise this has to be the ugliest ship I have ever been on. Having requested a second sitting for dining we found that we were in the early sitting at 5.45pm, even though our confirmation invoice stated "2nd sitting confirmed". The cabin (an outside on deck 2) was comfortable with adequate storage space and our cabin steward was excellent. However I was surprised that the bedlinen was not changed during during the 12 days. The buffet food was standard fayre and edible but lacked variety. However meals in the Posh Dining disappointed, both in taste and presentation. It is hard to choose one meal that was really outstanding and memorable. The limited entertainment was average, apart from the New Orleans night. Much of it was based on passenger participation (i.e cruisers laughing at a few unfortunate cruisers who had been plucked out of the audience) The ports of call were very good. Messina Sicily and Dubrovnik in particular. Although the ship is efficiently run. There was no sparkle and I was left wondering why it is called a "fun ship".
