On Celebrity Solstice, the first of a new class of five vessels to be launched through 2012, Celebrity has engineered an ultramodern new cruise ship. At 122,000 tons, Solstice is the largest Celebrity ship ever launched, but there's much more to this vessel than just brute size and power: it’s one of a new design of cruisers where the sun plays an essential part, from powering the 216 solar panels that factor in the ship's electrical output, to fostering what is an astonishing advancement for cruise-ships, a whole half-acre of living grass. Called the Lawn Club, this area includes bocce courts, a putting course and the Hot Glass Show, where passengers can watch the ‘blowing’ of complex works of glass art from the base materials to the beautiful finished objects. The elegant Grand Epernay is the ship's main dining room and on your Celebrity Solstice cruises you’ll find the menu consists of a mix of French, Italian and ‘New American’ styles, with contemporary popular ingredients -- phyllo, Yukon Gold potatoes, feta cheese, fresh fennel. Then there’s the Ocean view Cafe, a multi-station buffet for breakfast and lunch and an open-seating casual alternative venue for dinner. Then there’s the Mast Grill for casual dining option – and for speciality, upscale dining there’s Ensemble Vestibule, which forms a lotus from where Celebrity's trademark Michael's Club and four restaurants -- Blu, Murano, Silk Harvest and Tuscan Grille are arrayed. Entertainment aboard Celebrity Solstice cruises is varied and charming. Celebrity have introduced new enrichment activities to their onboard schedule, called ‘Celebrity Life’. Programming is divided into four themes, there’s Culinary, Enrichment, Wellness and Trivia & Games. There’s also the Solstice Theatre with a range performances that include featured dancers, singers, and welcome aboard and farewell shows. Then there’s a kind of mini-atrium called the ‘Entertainment Court’, the hub for night-time entertainment. And between the dining and entertainment venues, are the casino, reception and an incredible variety of 19 boutiques and shops. For kids and teens, there are the outstanding Fun-Factory and X-Club youth programmes, broken into an age-appropriate scheme.
