The Fred Olsen Braemar is a medium sized cruise ship, combing traditional décor with all of the modern amenities you’d expect from a stay at a top hotel. With a glass walled atrium stretching across the five decks, the Braemar is an elegantly stylish, modern looking ship. Fred Olsen’s Braemar offers a number of routes, with opportunities for Caribbean, Mediterranean and South American Cruises.
Onboard the Braemar you’ll find spacious, stately cabins, fitted with all the modern comforts you’d hope for. The ship features large, expansive windows wherever possible, as well as a number of terraces and open decks.
Fred Olsen Cruises are known for their intimate, friendly atmosphere, and guests are encouraged to mingle and get to know one another. To aid this interaction, you’ll join your cruise to find a busy social calendar already planned out – with theme nights, formal dinners and lectures from professional speakers. Fred Olsen Cruises also run golf cruises, which allow guests to improve their game under expert tutorage.
Other facilities onboard Fred Olsen Cruises’ Braemar include shops, an extensive library, a games arcade and a fully connected Internet centre. There is also a medical centre, should guests require it.
Guests onboard Fred Olsen’s Braemar can enjoy top quality meals, prepared by award-winning chefs at the Thistle Restaurant. Here you can enjoy a range of local and international cuisines (and a carefully selected list of fine wines), while gazing at breathtaking views through the restaurant’s large windows. Alternatively, for a less formal meal, visit the Palms Café. Here you can enjoy buffet style meals and snacks, surrounded by a collection of stylish carved murals.
The Braemar features a number of other bars and lounges, where guests can enjoy a coffee, long drink or a snack. Options include the Neptune Lounge, with its live stage shows, or the Coral Club – here guests can recline in comfortable tub chairs, while enjoying performances of classical music and traditional dance.
Guests can dance the night away out on the Sculptured Terrace, or even hit the casino.
In addition to this, Fred Olsen’s Braemar boasts a full fitness centre, featuring weights, resistance machines and professionally trained coaches. You could treat yourself to a session down at the beauty salon, or attend workshops in the dance studio. The Braemar also has an excellent open-air swimming pool, with two Jacuzzis, a sauna and a solarium.

Just back from the North Sea break on the Braemar. It was a fantastic four night cruise and as usual, the Braemar was terrific. Food, service, excursions and ports of call were first class. Would reccomend the Braemar very highly to anyone.
Friendliest ship we've ever been on--small, but lovely.
This was our 3rd cruise on the Braemar and so we had high hopes for a pleasant and enjoyable cruise. However we did have a couple of problems starting with the miserable flight out from Manchester to Barbados with Monarch Airlines. Even though we paid for the Premium seating the aircraft is obviously old with no modern video screens etc (these are individually provided to premium passengers as a separate unit). desperatly need newer aircraft. Two of the toilets packed up within 5 minutes of taking off causing long queues throughout the flight. If I did a fly/cruise with Fred Olsen again, I would make my own travel arrangements as the so called Premium is not the same standard as other airlines by a long way. As for the ship it was fine but starting to look tired and in need of a refit. One of the ports of call was changed at short notice which prevented a tour we were looking forward to. The 2 Jacuzzis onboard were closed down for 5 days supposedly for maintenance, and I was sick for 3 days with tummy trouble. Plus it cost me
On the whole, I prefer bigger ships, but after travelling on the Braemar for a special D-Day cruise in June 2004, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall friendleness and service, not to mention the superb food and entertainment. The shore excursions were the only real let down. I am due to travel on Braemar next year.
Small & imimate & can get to places other larger cruise ships can't but don't be fooled that this also means the same quality as other cruise lines. The excursions and the cruise itinerary were good - it would be difficult not to be in the fjords but overall my experience left a lot to be desired. The cruise was heavily discounted and I can see why. The embarkation & disembarkation were a complete shambles. The cabins were small & the 'gym' shouldn't really be described as such! You get what you pay for. my ratings are comparative - I remain a confirmed P&O cruiser!
